During the year, there are many events
for you and your family to enjoy. Our area is really full of
surprises and points of interest. Just think about a guided visit to
the castles of the area and possibly to the antique fairs in Canelli,
Moncalvo, Asti and Nizza Monferrato.
During January, there are many wine and
food fairs and exhibitions where you may sample our traditional
cuisine.
In spring, the area is filled with the
perfume of our wines, the best being the Festival of Barbera in Nizza
Monferrato, Castagnole Lanze, Agliano and Montegrosso.
The first Sunday in June brings the race of the
barrels, which first took place in the 800’s, where the different
wineries roll their barrels along the streets in true competition.
In June, Canelli celebrates the Assedio, a weekend
filled with the history of the battle that took place in that area in
1613.
During the rest of the summer, various towns and
villages in the area put on exhibitions and tastings of their wines
and foods, native to their inhabitants. There are also numerous
festivals dedicated to their patron saints. You may also choose to
enjoy live theatre such as the National Festival at the Asti Theater,
the Theater and Hills at Calamandrana and the Music of Pievi, a
series of concerts suggestive of the churches of the area.
In September, the Douja d’Or, the national
festival of wine where you may taste the best wines from all of Italy
and for those of you that wish to participate in one of the largest
local festivals, there is the Festival delle Sagre where all the
local towns come together to prepare dishes from their area.
